aika-the-cupid:

This is the second time I’ve had to face the threat of being kicked out of school due to lack money. I’ve already come too far to stop trying now. If you have anything to spare, PLEASE donate to my Go Fund Me page, and if you can’t please reblog or share this to others.

I’m in a desperate position right now and I could really use the help.

Thank you.

Do you ever wonder if the reason that different cultures have such wildly different onomatopoeias for the noise a cat makes is that cats have regional accents?

Actually, they do.

There’s a lot of evidence that animals have regional accents. Both birds and sperm whales in fact to vocalise differently depending on where they grew up.

As for felines themselves, there’s an ongoing study underway on at Lund University precisely about this.

As a phonologist who has watched entirely too many cat videos on the internet, I can confirm that cats of differing countries do have differentiated accents in their cries. Felines in England tend to have shorter, lower “mow” whereas Japanese cats do tend to make glides into high vowels, and are sustained longer, such as the ubiqutous use of “nyaaaan” in Japanese onomatopoeia.

Hope this helps.

Which actually makes a lot of sense if it’s the case that cats meow because they’re trying to vocalize back at us.

Yes!  Meows are very much a common communication mode between humans and cats.  Cats use an entirely different set of sounds when communicating between eachother.

And “meows” are commonly around the same frequencies as human kids voices, so they are deliberately pitched to fit into the pitches that humans hear easily.  And each household of cats often has it’s own “words” for different things (like food, or cuddle time) but which are not shared between houses!

So it wouldn’t surprise me at all if cats exposed to humans who speak different languages end up making different “meow dialects”!

^.^

(oh, and wolves have accents too)

  • Things I will criticize Jyn Erso for: Disney's habit of casting only young, white women as leads, having a really bad case of the Smurfette principle (not specifically Jyn's fault), having a place in the plot very dependent on male characters
  • Things I will defend Jyn Erso for till my dying day: Her right to be unemotional, to not immediately run into warfare, to be selfish and show growth, to not outright cry, to be emotional(because there is no way she can win on this front, apparently), to exist as a woman

Okay, can someone explain to me what the democrats in government are doing? Like… I’ve never seen people NOT fight this hard in a long time.

codenamecesare:

telesilla:

reverseracism:

The conservatives fucking shut down the government when Obama was president and you can’t fucking get together to put Trump and his goons at bay?

Now what the hell. WHAT THE HELL.

There’s a huge difference here. The Republicans held the majority in both houses and so all they had to do was sit on their flabby white butts and vote no whenever Obama wanted something done. Without that majority, the Dems are going to be reduced to making flamboyant, but ultimately useless protest gestures like taking over the floor for 24 hours.

If we want the Dems in Congress to block Donald, then we need to make sure there are enough of them to be effective.

It is really depressing when people bitch about the Democrats like this because they are apparently incapable of COUNTING. Like, there are legit reasons to criticize Democrats, but you can’t expect them to accomplish shit that they would need more Congressional votes to accomplish! They can’t conjure more Democratic Senators and Reps out of thin air! We the people did not vote enough Democrats in. And now they the Democrats can’t stop the slight but crucial majority of Republicans from running things into the ground.

There were enough Republicans to shut down Obama. There are not enough Democrats to shut down Trump. The minority of Democrats staged an all-night event to try to stop Betsy DeVos’s appointment to the Cabinet, but it was 50-50, Pence got to break the tie, and she was confirmed. So Democrats did all they could here, but people whine, why aren’t they STOPPING this?

For the same reason you didn’t “stop Trump” during the 2016 election season. You only had power over your vote, and maybe some money to donate to efforts to try to sway other voters. But you couldn’t keep Rust Belt racists and sexists from narrowly voting him into office despite his 2.8 million popular vote deficit because his electoral vote count was larger. Why do you expect Democrats to have magic powers over math that you don’t?

roman republican politicians ranked by bangability

motleystitches:

thoodleoo:

caesar
a lot of people think caesar was hot and while he’s probably one hell of a power bottom (every woman’s husband and every man’s wife as the romans said), he also apparently was really weirdly obsessed with removing all of his body hair?? i mean clearly he got around so he was probably bangable but i don’t know how i feel about this. VI/X isn’t being bald on top of your head enough for you julius

mark antony
do i even need to talk about mark antony? he’s ancient rome’s greatest slut and proud of it, you know he’s bangable. just don’t marry him because you never know when he’ll end up divorcing you and becoming an enemy of the state so he can hang out with cleopatra. X/X slut machine

brutus
honestly historical brutus was kind of a turd and his pillow talk is probably really depressing because he feels all this pressure to be like his king-banishin’ monarchy-smashin’ republic-foundin’ super-ancestor. like ‘waaaah i gotta go kill caesar because blah blah republic’ the republic was failing anyway who cares can we talk about something other than your inferiority complex. II/X extorting provinces isn’t sexy, brutus

pompey the great
i guess pompey might have been sexy at one point in his youth but every time i think of him i can’t help but laugh at this stupid fake alexander the great hair and that doesn’t really make him very bangable in my eyes. IV/X please stop with the weird alexander fanboy thing

crassus
let’s be real, crassus probably only has sex in the missionary position and almost definitely comes first. he’s got all that money but is it worth it??? III/X probably still worth the money though

clodius pulcher
his name literally means clodius hot boi so like, there’s not even an argument there, you know this guy is smokin. the only problem is that he was a TREMENDOUS dumbass half of the time and loved to pull shit like sneaking into women-only festivals like an idiot so you just have to watch out for his nonsense. IX/X bang him and leave before he does something sacrilegious and gets you condemned to tartarus

cicero
alright, now i know some of you are reading this and immediately thinking “sarah thoodleoo, please tell me you’re not going to say cicero is bangable because that is one step too far even for you,” but i need you to hear me out, okay? first of all, cicero is an orator so you know he’s good with his tongue. second, he was named a pater patriae, so you know he’s daddy material. maybe he’s not the best bang in the late republic, but he’s not the worst either. V/X i’m sorry if i made you unwillingly think of cicero as a daddy but in fairness this isn’t the first time i’ve said that so i don’t know what you expected

cato the younger
like having sexy with crassus but with none of the money and all of the extra discomfort of listening to him rant about the good ol days while you’re trying to sleep and not think about how dissatisfied you are. -I/X stoic more like stoi-ick

@babeltwo @vrabia

Also, related, I want to point out that Fulvia married, in order: Publius Clodius Pulcher, Gaius Scribonius Curio, and Marcus Antonius, the latter of whom apparently banged each other in their youths, according to Cicero at least.

So uh..live your dream
